In Frisco, Texas, a high school choir teacher is currently in jail after authorities arrested him for allegedly committing a child sex crime. According to reports, Brett Yzquierdo has been arrested and charged with online solicitation of a minor.

The arrest warrant states that Yzquierdo, a choir teacher at Reedy High School, was online chatting with an undercover investigator who was posing as a 15-year-old boy. Yzquierdo reportedly told the investigator that he was chaperoning students during a school trip before the conversation became more sexual in nature. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest, and he is held in Collin County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Frisco High School Choir Teacher Arrested for Online Solicitation of a Child

News like this is extremely disheartening. As members of Collin County, we expect the leaders in our communities to set good examples for children and keep them safe. As a high school choir teacher, Yzquierdo is an individual who has the power to influence the children he teaches on a daily basis. While so many teachers relish the responsibility they have to their students, it is clear that this individual is not fit to lead the youth of our community. His actions show that he does not belong in a high school, and he should not be around children.

Individuals who attempt to prey on children must be brought to justice. These types of people are a threat to society, and they pose a huge threat to the children and youth of our community. Children who are victimized by sexual predators face an uphill battle towards recovery, and it can be extremely difficult to mentally bounce back after going through such a traumatic experience. Anyone who knows more about this case or any other case involving sexual assault of a minor is encouraged to contact Detective Jessica Brittain at 817-884-1436.

Online Solicitation of a Minor in Collin County

Online solicitation of a minor is a serious crime that will carry serious consequences. Considered a felony offense, this crime involves an individual engaging in sexual conduct with a minor through electronic communication.

According to Texas Penal Code 33.021, an individual commits online solicitation of a minor when they, while being over the age of 17, uses electronic mail, text message, or electronic message service to communicate in a sexually explicit manner with a minor, or distributes sexually explicit material to a minor.

As previously mentioned, online solicitation of a minor is a serious crime that can lead to an extremely serious consequence. Collin County heavily enforces the punishments for sexual offenses, and this is no exception. This is a third-degree felony that can lead to a 10-year imprisonment alongside a fine of up to $10,000. This can be upgraded to a second-degree felony if it is found that the minor involved was 14 years old or younger. When this takes place, the punishments will be upgraded to a maximum jail sentence of 20 years, in addition to a fine of up to $10,000.
